Fire Barrier II Material Safety Data Sheet

Fire Barrier II
MULTI-FUNCTIONAL FIRE RETARDANT POLYMERS
FIRE BARRIER H SYNTHETIC
WOVEN & NON-WOVEN NATURAL & SYNTHETIC BASED TEXTILE & FABRICS FIRE RETARDANT

The Fire Barrier n SYNTHETIC fire retardant series is a clear, halogen free, non-toxic, highly concentrated water-based finish that provides excellent fire resistance properties with no after-glow when applied to combustible materials. In most cases tensile strength is increased and corrosion tests reveal stainless steel is not affected. The Fire Barrier n SYNTHETIC is specifically designed to give maximum fire resistant protection to natural and synthetic based woven & non-woven textiles and fabrics constructed of wool, rayon, silk, jute, linen, sisal and cotton and cellulose origin fibers, polyesters, acrylics, rayon's, nylons and the constructed blends of the above. They offer many advantages of treatment. Fast transparent drying with/without heat on all surfaces. No VOC's.

The SYNTHETIC series is applied by spray or any immersion/soak type processes. Clean up is with warm soap and water. The SYNTHETIC will not stain nor alter the feel or look of the treated material. The SYNTHETIC series has been independently tested to meet and exceed lie following flammability standards: NFPA 701, MVSS 302, FAA 25, Cal Tech 116 & 117, and the British Standards. All application clean up is with warm soap and water.

TYPICAL PROPERTIES
Appearance: water clear
Solubility: it is readily soluble in water
pH: >7.5
Specific Gravity: 1.13-1.18 g/ml
Density: 9,0 Ib/Gal
Odor: Slight Odor
Storage: Should be stored in area where temperature is
between 32 and 120° F, At this temperature, shelf life is at least one year
Halogen: Free
Formaldehyde: Free
Coverage: 175-225 sq. ft / Gallon

To avoid quality degradation, all Fire Barrier n polymers must be stored above 35°F and it is helpful to keep your finishing products at room temperature to avoid application errors.

Fire Barrier II
MULTI-FUNCTIONAL FIRE RETARDANT POLYMERS
FIRE BARRIER H SYNTHETIC
APPLICATION
ALWAYS TEST A SAMPLE BEFORE BEGINNING.
Application of the SYNTHETIC involves applying it in a water-solution to the fabric or fibers in a concentration that will enable sufficient SYNTHETIC to remain attached after drying to impart maximum fire resistance. SYNTHETIC may be spray applied, roll padded, or any immersion process. The amount of SYNTHETIC required firing retard any particular fabric or fiber will have to be determined for each material and for the particular fire test criteria to be satisfied. Preliminary testing must be done on all fabrics and fibers. One of the key steps is to determine the amount of SYNTHETIC pickup for the application process being used.

For example, if the goal is to add 12% SYNTHETIC to the fabric and a process allows the fabric to pickup 100% of its weight in SYNTHETIC solution, and then the solution concentration needs to be 12%. If the fabric picks up SYNTHETIC solution equal to 75% of its weight, then the SYNTHETIC solution concentration needs to be 16%. A more likely scenario for the typical textile pad treatment system is that the pickup by the fabric will be equal to 50% of its weight in which case the SYNTHETIC concentration will have to be 24% so as to leave 12% SYNTHETIC on the fabric after drying. If forced air-drying is going to be used recommended drying temperatures are between 250°F to 350°F.
When treating materials if hardness, stiffness or chalking (white deposits) are witnessed, a too high concentration of the fire retardant has been used. Dilute in 2% increments with water and re-test your sample materials until your material are properly treated and meet the specific flammability test your are trying to achieve.
